What type of graphics do you use for the web, vector graphics or raster graphics?

Vector graphics even though more commonly used for print, are commonly used in the initial graphic creation process, for the web. That means, commonly when a logo has been created, it is a vector graphic. But when it is uploaded to the web, it must be converted to a raster graphic. Although Vector Markup Language for the web exist, it has not made the impact that was initially desired. That means, the best way to upload graphics to the web, is to use raster graphics, like jpeg and gif.

Do I use RGB graphics for the web or CMYK?

There are several ways in which computers handle colour in picture files, the main 2 colour modes being RGB colour and CMYK colour. RGB colour is suitable when images are to be viewed on screen and not for printing. CMYK colour should always be used when a colour image is to be printed. When creating graphics, your graphics files can be set to CMYK from within the graphics program. In addition to RGB and CMYK colour, you may also need to work with Pantone colour. The Pantone Matching System is a universally accepted system which allows you to specify the exact colour ink you want to use.

I would like to create my own advertising banners, what software should I use?

Photoshop, Coreldraw, Fireworks and Adobe Illustrator are just some of the main programs used for creating graphics. However it must be understood, that these programs require a large investment in education, something that many people do not have the time for. However there are some simplified online banner programs, that will have you creating banners in minutes, without knowing too much technical information.
